Students gathered Tuesday night at Glover Gate and took part in the annual "Take Back the Night" observance.
The event drew a large crowd, and it was encouraging to see men as well as women out in support of rape victims and prevention.
After marching around campus chanting slogans against violence, the participants gathered in Kay to hear from rape vicitims and support them on the road to recovery. It takes great courage to get up in front of strangers and talk about such a traumatic experience. Those that did so have our respect and admiration.
We also want to thank the attendees for keeping the information confidential, since they may run into the speakers around campus. This respect is the reason the event has been so successful and continues year after year.
It is horrible that these women had to suffer the injustice of rape, but we thank them for speaking out and helping others should they find themselves in the same
situation.
Should you or someone you know experience sexual assault, we encourage you to contact the Health Center and Public Safety immediately.
