The School of Communication Undergraduate Council hosted its second School of Communication Week last week and activities included a speech by Jackie Spinner, the American Forum, Dean Screen, Ben and Jerry's ice cream sundaes and a fiesta on the Quad.
"SOC week is meant to create unity and spirit within the School of Communication," said Kristin Zearfoss, vice president of the SOC undergraduate council.
Laurie Bernstein, president of the SOC undergraduate council said, people don't know that each school has a council that's supposed to be doing similar events for their respective schools.
"The social events at the end of the week, the ice cream party and the fiesta, are just as important as the substantive programs," Kirkman said. "The informal connections we make with each other across disciplines are vital to the academic life of the school."
According to Bernstein, SOC is trying to push boundaries and break stereotypes with event planning.
"We just wanted to get our image out there," Bernstein said. "We have one of the top 15 journalism schools in the nation. Our school is overshadowed by the rest of the schools"
