Students, staff come out for Capital Pride celebration

Volunteers from the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transexual and Ally Resource Center at AU were invited to march in this week's Capital Pride Parade and table at the Capital Pride Festival. AU students also came out to spectate at these events. To some, they represent an unusual opportunity to celebrate their identities.

AU athlete drafted for Major League Baseball

Men's basketball forward Stephen Lumpkins is trading in his basketball shorts for a bat and cap. Lumpkins will postpone his graduation from AU to join the Kansas City Royals' rookie team in Arizona this summer. Last season, he was the Eagles' second-leading scorer after Vlad Moldoveanu, who graduated in May. The hardest thing for Lumpkins to do, he said, was tell his teammates about his choice to leave.

Rainn Wilson talks faith and spirituality, still funny

NBC's Rainn Wilson brought up some pretty heavy topics in the Kay Spiritual Life Center on Tuesday. He outlined the tenets of the Bahá'í faith and his own spiritual journey. Despite the serious subject matter, he still cracked up the crowd.

WONK continues to craft AU identity one year later

Seniors will have one last opportunity to love or hate the WONK campaign on graduation day. They can pose for photos with life-sized cartoons of “commencement WONKs” in full regalia, eat off WONK napkins and wear WONK buttons before AU becomes their alma mater. As the Class of 2011 leaves with WONK marking the end of their college careers, the Class of 2015 is beginning with WONK defining theirs.

Black student leaders feel event policy is unfair

Students in several black student organizations on campus say a Student Activities policy unfairly discriminates against their groups. The policy governs late-night, large-scale events, which are defined as starting or ending after 11 p.m., having more than 250 guests and more than 50 percent non-AU ...
