The editorial cartoons published in several newspapers worldwide depicting the Muslim prophet Muhammad are inexcusable and not a correct exercise of freedom of the press, according to members of the AU community. Make sure you have...

For the last-minute minded among us, a quick reminder: Valentine's Day is Tuesday. Whether you're single or taken, and even if you think V-Day is simply a Hallmark-engineered scheme to sell tons of candy and greeting cards, it never hurts to send a little TLC in the direction of those who deserve - or just could use - it.

Cartoons cross the line

I have been following closely the arguments regarding the recent riots across the Muslim world in response to the depictions of the Prophet Mohammad in European newspapers. ÿI am particularly astounded by the likes of arguments proferred by Mike Inganamort and the "free speech" contingency.

Letters to the editor

Dear Editor: I was shocked by Riazul Raquib's editorial, "Freedom of expression does not equal racial ignorance," printed in your paper February 6. In it, Mr Raquib claims that Muslim governments "should be commended" for responding vehemently to cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad, and that the Danish government, by blindly defending freedom of speech, had compromised its national security.

Music notes

Oceansize "Everyone Into Position" (Beggars Banquet) Sounds Like: If Isis grew up with Maroon 5. C- For all the verbose musical prophecies this band claims in its press release, Oceansize is hardly Moses. On "Everyone Into Position," the new disc from British prog-rockers Oceansize, the band attempts to reconcile the beautiful soundscapes and icy guitars of bands like Red Sparrows, Isis and Neurosis with mainstream appeal.

Basketball recruitment offends, demeans women

EMILY CAPONETTI This letter directly addresses my disappointment with the demeaning and insensitive conduct displayed by the Men's Basketball Office through their objectification of women in recent recruitment materials.ÿ The flier's flagrant promotion of sexist attitudes is undeniable in its description of Washington, DC as "the #1 place to find babes.
