Holocaust Remembrance Week

In remembrance of Holocaust, members of AU's Jewish community are holding events this week to honor those who died. The week includes a private tour of the Holocaust Museum and movie screenings. Track wins 2 at Terrapin Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The AU men's and women's track teams competed in the Terrapin Invitational on the campus of the University of Maryland on Saturday, placing ninth and 18th, respectively, in the second major event of the outdoor season. On the men's side, sophomore Awit Yohannes victory highlighted the meet by winning the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3 minutes 53.

Iraqi media experiences new freedoms

Before the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime, the only media in Iraq was government run. There was no chance to express a second opinion, said Hamdi, an Iraqi newspaper editor. "Since the arrival of the liberating forces, a new page in the life of Iraq has begun as far as the media is concerned," he said on Thursday.

DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN

A hushed silence fell over the supporters of incumbent Student Government President Harry S. Truman gathered in the Eric Friedheim Quadrangle earlier today, as rumors spread that New York State Governor Thomas E. Dewey, a sophomore in the School of Public Affairs, had defeated President Truman, a junior in the School of International Service, by nearly 250 votes.

Hipster experiences irony-free moment in movie

Jonah Votolato, AU visual media major and self-proclaimed "hipster," experienced an irony-free moment during a viewing of "Just Like Heaven" Saturday night. The uncharacteristic emotional display occurred when Votolato and several friends gathered at an apartment on U Street late Saturday evening to commemorate the birthday of fellow scene member Rocco Ryans.

Rodney makes his opinions known

A former employee of Jamba Juice, Rodney, was recently spotted working at RFK Stadium, according to an Eagle investigative reporter. Rodney, best known for his loud raspy voice that effectively made Jamba Juice patrons listen for their numbers, is now selling beer during games.

Since Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo, Japan gave Washington, D.C. the gift of 3.000 Japanese cherry trees on March 27th, 1912, Washingtonians have annually enjoyed the blooms and bemoaned the tourists. The trees helped to enhance the friendship that the United States and previously isolationist Japan were developing.

Illegal campus parking curbed

AU Public Safety officer Knancii Black said on Friday that her effort to curb illegal parking on and around campus will make the world a better place, and is important to her personal fulfillment. Black said she didn't feel loved as a child and is now seeking validation in the form of cowering students whose cars have been booted after ignoring thousands of dollars of parking tickets.

As the starting point guard for the AU men's basketball team, Derrick Mercer earned the position as a freshman, a rare accomplishment in Division I basketball.
