Corrections and Clarifications

In a Sept. 18 news article titled "Alcohol-related transports on the rise," The Eagle incorrectly reported that so far this year, no alcohol-related transports related to on-campus drinking had occurred. According to Student Advocacy Center Director Nick Johnson, there have been transports this year related to on-campus drinking, and Letts Hall Resident Director Issam Khoury was misquoted.

Letter to the editor

In response to the libertarian columnist, I would like to clarify a few points in the argument proposed. The claim was made that "libertarianism is a philosophy that values individual rights and freedom above all else." Furthermore, it was pushed, one should be able to do anything to oneself because it ought to be your right to do so, "unless it directly affects the rights of another," in which case the government reserves the right to step in.

I was reading an article in The Washington Post yesterday about Maryland's Republican candidate for Senator, Michael Steele. The title was, "Where's The Party? Nowhere To Be Found in Steele's Ads." The article, written by Paul Farhi, focuses on Steele's campaign ads and their lack of party identification.

Misfortune leads to opportunities

Last Friday I was supposed to fly home for my cousin's wedding. After my usual debaucherous Thursday night, I got up just in time to hop in my friend's car and speed my way to Dulles. I arrived at the ticket counter just in time -- for the ticket agent to tell me that my flight was out of National.

Griffith classic raises controversy

Politicians may lead American policy, but celebrities lead Americans. Much of what we do, wear and say is based on those who walk the glittery red carpet. The question is, who are these people? You don't have a clue, says the film "A Face in the Crowd." Elia Kazan's 1957 movie is the tale of a man, Larry "Lonesome" Rhodes (Andy Griffith), who goes from the bottom up in life's luxuries.
