Letter to the editor: Will Haun should try some cruelty-free veggie options

·

There are a number of disturbing inaccuracies in a recent op-ed ("AU wrong to promote PETA and 'vegetarian lifestyle,'" Nov. 10). First, the author should know that no one is "shoving anything down his throat," least of all "far left ideology." Animal advocates come from across the political spectrum; the organization I'm interning for this semester, the Humane Society Legislative Fund, endorses Democratic and Republican candidates for political office based solely on their stances on animal issues.

Obama: The post-media president

It is post-Baby Boomer, post-partisan, post-racial, and most importantly, post-Bush. And add to that list of unfounded hyperboles one new construction: "post-media." Throughout the 2008 horse race, now-President-elect Barack Obama demonstrated a proclivity toward digital media.

Don't judge the library by its ugliness

AU students need to focus on benefits of this university, not the detriments. We're too often focused on the negatives, looking, begging for something to criticize or call out. Let's be honest - who hasn't complained about the Terrace Dining Room, Public Safety, Financial Aid, the dorms, bureaucracy, the list goes on and on.

Mad for plaid: bright colors, tailored tops update classic

While magazines and store windows are full of the latest trends for fall and winter, one trend seems to be more popular than the rest. From Urban Outfitters to Dolce and Gabbana, plaid - also referred to as tartan or bull-check - is in for men and women. But, this isn't the grungy flannel Kurt Cobain and the MTV generation of the '90s wore or the crisp Christmas plaid of your childhood.

'Heroes' sells out, cashes in

"Thanks Dad, a new Nissan Rogue!" The line from the television show "Heroes'" shark-jumping second season, which spawned a million facepalms from entertainment bloggers across the world, is one of the more groan-inducing pieces of evidence that Hollywood is growing visibly desperate to reach consumers bloated on over-exposure to conventional advertising and with a quick thumb on the remote.

AU wrong to promote PETA and 'vegetarian lifestyle'

As a senior at AU, I am no stranger to our school's attempts to demonstrate tolerance for "alternative" foods and lifestyles by shoving far left ideology down our throats. This time however, the university is literally doing just that. Bon Appetit, AU's official food service (the company that gives us those questionable delectables in TDR), in its attempt to develop an "environmentally friendly" food service, has been attempting to gain the praise of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a not-so-mainstream "animal rights" group.
