Letter to the editor: RAD for men coordinator lays down challenge to Eagle staff

I am writing this article to clear up a few misconceptions that were perpetuated in last week's "Staff Editorial: Male RAD class needs retooling." RAD Systems, and the RAD for men program, was founded and developed by Larry Nadeau. Nadeau holds a 3rd degree Black Belt from the International Hapkido Karate Association (IHKA) and among many other things, is a nationally recognized police defensive tactics instructor.

Web site provides AU gossip outlet

A new online forum dedicated to anonymous discussion and debate is now available to AU students, through a Web site similar to the well-known JuicyCampus. The new site - Quad Times - advertises itself as a "more secure" forum because only students with a valid AU e-mail address can register and view comments.

Win propels Eagles into first

The AU women's basketball team moved into first place in the Patriot League after its 64-58 win over the College of the Holy Cross Crusaders Saturday. Sophomore forward Michelle Kirk and redshirt junior guard Nicole Ryan led the Eagles' offense with a combined 35 points, while sophomore forward Liz Leer orchestrated the defense with four blocks and seven rebounds.

Crowds and Stars Unite at Musical Celebration for Obama

Crowds of AU students gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial with stars of all varieties and hundreds of thousands of people, according to the Washington Post, for the "We Are One" inaugural concert on Sunday. The concert featured musical performances and readings of historical passages by celebrities, as well as speeches by then President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden.

Defense class now offered for men

Public Safety has instituted its first self-defense class for men, in response to several requests, according to Public Safety Sgt. Dale Booth. Resisting Aggression with Defense (for men) came in response to e-mails to Booth, who is the RAD program's former director, he said.
