Believe it or not, there is baseball to talk about that has nothing to do with Alex Rodriguez. Pitchers and catchers are starting to report, so let's all take a break from thinking up new steroid-themed nicknames and talk about the only division in the AL to avoid A-Rod, the AL Central: Last year, the top two teams, the Twins and White Sox, were so close, they forced a one game playoff.

Year-round love trumps flowers on Feb. 14

Valentine's Day was invented by greeting card companies to make single people feel lonely. So it is said. But guess what? The roots of this holiday are very old, and the original point was not what we think of today. Valentine's Day now represents, more than anything else, a ploy by companies to get people to buy stuff.

Small changes mean big things at AU

We are only beginning to tell the story of AU. Spreading the good word about AU is a goal of university leadership, and it is a goal that I'm glad has moved to the forefront, even as we work to improve AU for future generations. And to guide our improvement we have a grand new strategic plan, built by our community, which captures the spirit of this institution.
