With summer on our doorstep, it's pretty safe to say that you'll be hearing a lot of stereos blasting the soundtrack of the season for the next few months. Well, you're in luck. The Eagle is here to give you advice on some of the best summer songs to make your time away from AU a little bit more rewarding.

Fashion capstone proves perfect fit

Many athletes, singers, dancers, musicians and performers only seek the thrill of the extracurricular activity and not the glory that comes with the major or minor. However, Nina Mahi Zadrozny-Pereira, a senior majoring in psychology and minoring in math and theatre, has turned her pasttime into what she hopes is a full-time future in fashion design.

Local bands rock out DC9

Local bands are a much-maligned sect of the elitist music industry. Audiences and critics tend to assume that a band is untalented just because they are: a) not signed, b) playing in local dives to crowds of five people and c) releasing trashy little EPs that sound like they were recorded in a cave.

Student assaulted on South Side

A Campus Crime Alert was issued Tuesday following an incident where a female student was groped while walking on the South Side of campus Sunday night. The report states that at approximately 9 p.m. a man grabbed a female student on the breast while it was raining Sunday night.

As we approach the beginning of May, wild rumors about the "summer blockbusters" start to get everyone's hopes up. Rather than pretending to be excited about some Creed album slated for release in August (merely an example, so cool your jets before you bombard the nearest Tower Records), here is a list of some of the potentially great album releases for this summer.

Draft issue raises questions

Last week, White House and Pentagon officials denied allegations of a plan to reinstate a military draft to aid action in Iraq - an idea that has some AU students worried. There is currently a bill in both the Senate and House of Representatives that suggest the re-introduction of a draft.

Destructive decisions targeted by bands

The Rejected, fronted by Mel Gagarin, was the first of eight bands to play the Tavern on Saturday in an all-day show sponsored by the Department of Audio Technology. Donations totaling about $300 were made at the show to benefit a new chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) that is being set up in honor of AU student Andrew Burr, who was killed by a drunken driver in January.

Throne in Bender, on downloading

Connecticut's Throne have been performing and touring up and down the East Coast since 1995. The band most recently opened for N.E.R.D. and Fountains of Wayne at Bender Arena on Friday. The band's latest release, "Balladry" was co-produced by fan and friend Billy Martin of Good Charlotte fame.

New AD prepares for her first hire

When Joni Comstock stepped onto AU's campus as the new Athletic Director four months ago, she had no idea she'd be making such a monstrous hire so quickly. Now, here she sits, about to name the new Women's Basketball head coach, a hire that could make or break her tenure as the AD.

Men's Tennis wins PL title

AU's regular-season Men's Tennis match against Army in late March was an epic, spanning over four hours and won in the final singles match on court. In the rematch - this Sunday's Patriot League championship - AU clinched victory before church let out.

Women are less likely than men to run for political offices because they receive less encouragement to run and often think of themselves as less qualified than men, according to a study published this month.
