Metro brief: Man tackled at Capitol to be deported

A 33-year-old Australian man was tackled in front of the Capitol Monday for standing in a fountain facing the building's west side. Wenhao Zao was found Monday with two briefcases by police, who snuck up on Zao and tackled him to the ground. Zao was unresponsive despite one request to see the president, according to cbsnews.

A California woman who wanted to sue the fast-food franchise Wendy's last week dropped her lawsuit Wednesday due to what her attorney calls "emotional distress." Anna Ayala was eating a bowl of chili at a San Jose Wendy's chain last month when she bit into a 1.

National brief: Deadly virus sent to health labs

Health officials reported Wednesday that a deadly 1950s flu virus was accidentally sent to thousands of labs throughout the past six months. According to an article from msn.com, labs incinerated the deadly samples before they could be a threat to the world.

Friday, April 8 A student filed an informational complaint with Public Safety about fraternity incidents on campus. An employee lost his keys in the Mary Graydon Center. The keys have not yet been recovered. Graffiti was found in a lower level of Anderson Hall.

Women's Tennis struggles, but together

In what has been one of the toughest seasons for any team at AU, the Women's Tennis team lost again Tuesday to Howard, 5-2. Yet considering the state of the AU tennis program and the team's 17-match losing streak, the effort alone is enough to draw praise from its followers.

600,000 PSPs sold in first week Sony Computer Entertainment America said 600,000 PSPs were sold in the first week of availability after the game console was launched on March 24, creating $150 million in revenue. Sony had anticipated selling all 1 million systems shipped to North America in 24 hours, but analysts said the launch was still a solid one.

During my years at American University, I have heard a lot about the school's goal to become the "premier global university." I respect this aspiration, and I certainly think that AU has made great strides to accomplish its goal. That is why, in recent months, I have been utterly disappointed in the University's willingness to consider Starbucks as a coffee option for our campus.

Former V.P. candidate speaks about tackling U.S. poverty

Former Sen. John Edwards spoke of the dire state of America's poverty crisis to a full audience of AU students in Bender Arena yesterday. Since his term in the U.S. Senate and subsequent bid for the vice presidency, Edwards has become the director for the Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Golf Dominates Field At Lafayette Invitational

It has been a season full of drama, turmoil, and emotion but on Saturday the AU Men's Golf team made a resounding statement with a commanding victory. Playing in their fifth tournament in six weeks the team dominated Lafayette Invitational, earning their first win of the season by six strokes with a team score of 595.

Campus Brief: Inganamort gets D.C. position

The AU political machine stretched one step further on Saturday night, as junior Mike Inganamort was named chairman of the D.C. Federation of College Republicans. Inganamort, president of the AU College Republicans and former political columnist for The Eagle in 2004, was elected unanimously by the federation, which is composed of College Republican chapters from AU, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Howard University and the Catholic University of America.

Mount ticket sweeps RHA exec elections

Will Mount was elected president of the Residence Hall Association with 54.7 percent of the vote, and executive positions went to other members of his joint ticket, its board of elections announced Thursday. Cynthia Purekal was elected vice president of programming, Michelle Reich won vice president of administration and finance, and Adam Poulemanos will be vice president of advocacy and community coordination.

Men's Tennis again secures regular season title Men's Tennis (13-3, 5-0 Patriot League) upset No. 67 Army and beat Colgate on the road as it clinched home-court advantage in the PL Championships four the fourth-consecutive year. AU's Sebastien Proisy survived a three-set battle (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) in what proved to be the deciding match in Saturday's narrow 4-3 decision over the Black Knights (16-4, 3-1).
