Thursday night President George W. Bush will face off against Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) in Miami for the first of three presidential debates. Many students enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, funnel cake, pretzels and snow cones on the Quad provided by the University as part of the Celebrate AU event. The event that kicks off the school year was held on Friday after it was postponed from Wednesday due to rain. President Benjamin Ladner and Vice President of Campus Life Gail Hanson were among those from the administration who were seen at the event in front of the Kay Spiritual Life Center. Celebrate AU is an annual tradition started in 2002 to welcome new students and allow returning students and faculty to mingle.
The Watkins Gallery will present different art pieces in an exhibition called "What's the Story? Narrative Art from the Watkins Collection" over the next three weeks.
Elvie Melegrito, a petite, spirited Filipino woman who has worked in the Kay Spiritual Life Center for the last 35 years, literally looks up to most of the people she meets-in height. Although Melegrito is leaving her administration position, many have looked up to Melegrito over the years because of her constant dedication to Kay and the AU community.

Despite the overcast weather and rising dust from many feet, hundreds of thousands of people from all over the globe took to the streets in downtown D.C. in response to the recent attacks to abortion rights at the March for Women's Lives yesterday.
