Sean Graham will be the new track and field and cross country coach at American University, Athletic Director Billy Walker announced Thursday. Graham served as an assistant coach for Matt Centrowitz, Sr. from 2009-2011 and 2012-2013 before spending the last four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky. Graham also earned his MBA from the Kogod School of Business in 2011 while working as an assistant coach.

2016 AU grad Natalie Konerth was selected as the Corvias Patriot League Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year on July 18. She is the third AU student-athlete to earn the title since AU joined the Patriot League in 2001.

Heading into the 2017 volleyball season, AU returns the same core of players which delivered a Patriot League championship last fall and an appearance in the NCAA tournament that ended with a loss to Michigan in the first round. The team only graduates one senior, Julita Kurdziuk, and with the team a year older and more experienced, the Eagles hope to reach greater heights in 2017. When Lonnie Rivera, Delante Jones and James Washington signed their National Letters of Intent to play basketball at AU in 2014, there was a genuine buzz around the program. Jones and Washington were 3-star recruits, and Rivera had international basketball experience with the Puerto Rican national team.

On a wet and rainy day at Jacobs Field, the AU women’s lacrosse team honored its seniors before falling to College of the Holy Cross 12-10 in their final regular season game. The Eagles and Crusaders swapped momentum and goals, but Holy Cross scored two goals in the final five minutes to pull away.

The women's lacrosse team scored five second half goals in its game on Saturday at Jacobs Field, but the Eagles' rally fell short and they fell to Bucknell, 9-8. The team remains winless in the Patriot League.

Sophomore forward Lonnie Rivera announced his intent to transfer from AU on Twitter on Thursday, becoming the fourth player in four seasons under head coach Mike Brennan to transfer from the AU men’s basketball program.

Senior Jason Grimes, junior Jeric Kasunic and sohomore Josh Terao weren't supposed to be watching the finals of the 2017 NCAA Wrestling championships in St. Louis. In head coach Teague Moore's perfect world, all three athletes would have been back in their sweat suits, preparing for another session after Friday's competition.

The NCAA tournament, the prime event for college
wrestlers during the season, offered a different kind of stage for AU sophomore
Josh Terao. During the regular wrestling season, Terao wrestled in front of a
couple dozen fans in Bender Arena. Bender provided Terao a spotlight, but the
atmosphere at the NCAA tournament in St. Louis on March 16 offered a new chance
to shine. Terao readied himself, shaking out his limbs, on Mat 8 as he prepared
for his second contest of the tournament and continued towards his goal of
becoming an All-American.

The AU women’s basketball team found themselves
in another close game as the clock wound down in the fourth quarter on Monday
during the Quarterfinal matchup against Boston University in Bender Arena. The
Eagles (15-15) once again were able to make the crucial plays to advance in the
Patriot League tournament with their 57-51 victory over the Terriers.

The AU men’s basketball team has lost a lot this season, 21 times to be exact. That being said, its most disappointing and shocking loss may have come off the court.
