It has been quite the fall semester for American University Athletics. Out of the six programs that competed in the fall, three won Patriot League regular season championships, demonstrating resilience throughout their seasons.

Over the week of Thanksgiving, the American University men’s basketball team (6-4) won three of their four home games. The Eagles defeated the Division III Marywood Pacers (4-1) 113-53 on Nov. 24 ahead of the inaugural Capital Thanksgiving Classic hosted by American. During the tournament, American beat the Maine Black Bears (0-10) 74-61 on Nov. 28, lost to the Siena Saints (7-2) 59-55 on Nov. 29 and beat the Longwood Lancers (5-5) 92-66 on Nov. 30.

American University offers hundreds of different undergraduate and graduate programs, and Eagle athletes are involved in over 100 of them. From business administration to studio art, athletes take part in all that the University has to offer.

When the Puerto Rican women’s lacrosse team stepped onto the field against the Haudenosaunee Nationals lacrosse team at the Atlas Cup, American University assistant coach Jo Torres wasn’t on the sideline: she was in the goal. Competing internationally for the first time and playing her first-ever sixes game, Torres was thrown into an unfamiliar, but exhilarating challenge.

The American University women’s basketball team (1-2) fell at home to the University of Delaware (2-2) on Nov. 17 with a final score of 68-57. The Eagles entered Monday’s matchup looking to bounce back from a tough road loss to Clemson the week before, while the Blue Hens came off a two-game skid, including a loss to American’s Patriot League rival the Navy Midshipmen.

The American University men’s soccer team (8-8-2) fell to the Lafayette Leopards (8-7-7) in overtime by a score of 3-2 on Nov. 11 at Reeves Field. The loss spelled the end of the team’s season.

The American University men’s basketball team (2-3) defeated the Central Penn Knights (0-5) at home by a score of 115-50 on Nov. 15. This win over the Division II school is the largest margin of victory in program history, and came just a few days after a 40-point loss at George Washington University.

The American University volleyball team (24-4) are Patriot League champions after defeating the Army Black Knights (19-9) in the conference’s championship match at Bender Arena on Nov. 23. The Eagles swept Army in dominant fashion, winning each of the game’s three sets by at least 7 points.
