GALA Hispanic/Tivoli Theatre will host the 23rd annual Reel Affirmations film festival starting tonight at 7 p.m. and ending on Sunday. This year, the festival will include 35 new films, with movie contributions from ten countries.

Growing up in beef-bountiful Texas, I ate hamburgers on a weekly basis. I stopped this habit once I reached high school, and now I hardly eat beef. But everyone needs a burger once in a while, so when the new Burger, Tap & Shake opened in Tenleytown, I decided to indulge in a sandwich.

D.C. is experiencing an uptick in violent crime this summer that has local officials scratching their heads. But I’d rather lie in my comfortable bed and watch them exercise than lace up my own shoes. For AU students staying the summer and DMV locals alike, D.C. offers plenty of outdoor entertainment options. As a bonus for those who can stand the sweltering summer heat, lots of those outside options are free. The National Park Service announced its summer concert lineup on July 2 and added another handful of free outdoor events to the city’s summer to-do list.

NPR White House Correspondent Tamara Keith didn’t always want to work as a journalist. In the sixth grade, Keith won a writing competition where she wrote about how she wanted to pursue a career as a volcanologist and study volcanos when she grew older. After her victory in the writing competition, her local TV station wrote a story on her, and her interview with the station ignited her passion for journalism.
