Administrators in AU Dining Services are trying out a new diet this year to better relate to students. Led by Director of Dining and Dining Services Ken Chadwick, several staff members have converted to veganism in the last several months so that they can better understand the different dietary needs of students.

Allie Cannington is one of those chronically busy people. Waiting for her salad at Freshii, a handful of friends pass by and give her a quick group hug. A professor approaches her and asks about the status of an assignment. Another friend calls her and arranges study plans. Spend a few minutes with Cannington and one wonders how she gets any homework done at all.

We are writing on behalf of students who took action at the Kennedy Political Union’s Dick Cheney event and others on campus who are disgusted and outraged that KPU used student money to bring this individual to AU. KPU provides a valuable service to students by showcasing speakers from across the political spectrum. We recognize the importance of respecting a range of political viewpoints and highlighting voices that might not represent the political majority at AU. What we cannot accept is providing a platform to those whose political careers are built on positions and policies that undermine the mission and values of this University.

Blue shirts rushed the floor of Case Gymnasium on March 12 as AU men’s basketball clinched its first Patriot League title since 2009. A roster predicted to finish ninth in-conference, consisting of only one senior, a new head coach and a brand new playbook defied the odds and gave the AU community an underdog to support on the national stage. For the first time in a long time there is a conscious sense of school spirit on this campus.

The Board of Trustees may vote in May to remove University investments from the fossil fuel industry after 80 students with the Fossil Free AU campaign silently held cardboard signs asking the Board of Trustees to divest at the Feb. 21 board meeting.

Recyclemania, a nationwide competition between 600 schools to see who recycles the most, is now in full swing after a week and a half. In 2012, AU won Grand Championship with the highest recycling rate and this year AU aims to reclaim this title.
