BREAKING: Jenny Glenn named as next head volleyball coach

Glenn comes to American after decade, national championship at Division II MSU Denver

American University announced Jenny Glenn as the new head coach for the women’s volleyball team on March 5, 2026. She succeeds Ahen Kim in the role and enters the program after a 24-5 Patriot League championship season for the Eagles.

Prior to her hiring at American, Glenn was the head coach at the Metropolitan State University of Denver, leading the team to a 32-3 Division II national championship season in 2025. She coached the Roadrunners for 10 seasons, amassing a 252-53 record and winning three conference titles. MSU Denver did not miss a national championship tournament under Glenn, making it as a conference champion in three seasons and as an at-large bid in six of the other seven (the 2020 season was cancelled due to COVID-19).

“We are so excited to welcome Jenny, a proven leader, as the new head coach of our women’s volleyball program,” said American University Director of Athletics and Recreation JM Caparro in a statement. “Her commitment to competitive excellence and personal growth will elevate our program and inspire our student-athletes to achieve extraordinary results, on and off the court.”

In her time at MSU Denver, Glenn also developed multiple Division II All-Americans, with outside hitters Rylee Hladky and Riley Anderson each achieving the mark. She has overseen 16 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region players and 13 AVCA All-Americans in her decade of coaching the Roadrunners.

“It is a program with great tradition and proven success, and I will work hard to uphold this reputation,” Glenn said in a statement. “It is an exciting time to be a part of the American University athletic department, and I am looking forward to working with the exceptional staff and student-athletes to continue to win championships.”

Sophomore middle blocker Emma Blankenship was enthusiastic about the hiring of Glenn.

“We’ve talked to a bunch of people in the volleyball world and have heard nothing but incredible things about her,” Blankenship said.

She also expressed confidence in the team’s ability to carry the team’s momentum into next season, that the team is going to build off what they did with new ideas from Glenn to help them move forward.

Glenn joined the team for a Zoom meeting on March 4, where she shared her hiring and her intent for the program.

“She mentioned that she’s here to get us further in the tournament. Making the tournament is going to be the standard for the program now,” Blankenship said.
