Gabrielle Union to speak at All-American Weekend

Actress and activist to visit AU on Oct. 21

Actress and activist Gabrielle Union will speak at the Kennedy Political Union’s All-American Weekend event on Oct. 21, KPU announced Wednesday. The event will begin at 8:15 p.m. in Bender Arena.

Union is best known for her starring role in “Being Mary Jane,” a BET drama series in which she plays a successful talk show host looking for love. She has also appeared in films such as “Think Like a Man,” “Love & Basketball,” “The Perfect Holiday” and “10 Things I Hate About You,” among others.

Union is also known for her activism in support of the Young Survivor Coalition and the Rape Treatment Center at UCLA. As an ambassador for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, she has traveled on behalf of the foundation in support of breast cancer survivors after she lost a friend to the disease. She is releasing a book of essays, titled “We’re Going to Need More Wine,” later this month.

Admission to the event is free for all AU students with a valid student ID. Alumni and parents can purchase tickets on the All-American Weekend website. Attendees are advised to arrive early to ensure admission.
