The Weekend Scene: Halloween weekend

You have the perfect costume picked out, and you’ve made plans with your crew for Halloween night. But isn’t there more to Halloween than dressing up and going out? Halloween can be a weekend of fun-filled, spooky activities. The Scene knows what events will provide you with a spectacular Halloween weekend.

Night At The Living Zoo

For the 21+ crowd, check out the Smithsonian National Zoo for a night to remember. The event includes live music, a DJ, craft beer, food trucks, a costume contest and performance artists. Performances by Black Masala and DJ squirrel, and popular D.C. food trucks such as CapMac stand out as likely highlights of the night..

Trick-or-Treating at Bethesda Row

Bethesda Row opens its doors tonight to community members looking for special Halloween treats. Restaurants and shops will open up for late-night candy giveaways, discounts and deals and even some samples. Giveaway highlights include free candy, gazpacho samples and complimentary tapas (with purchase) at Jaleo, hummus and pita samples at Lebanese Taverna and a free cocktail if you come dressed in costume at Redwood Restaurant and Bar.

Dia De Los Muertos Family Festival

The National Museum of the American Indian celebrates Dia de los Muertos, a traditional Hispanic celebration honoring the dead and the life cycle. The event includes food demonstrations by the museum’s Mitsitam Native Foods Cafe, cultural presentations of traditional dances and arts and crafts.Chicana artist Carmen Lomas Garza will also deliver a talk during the festival, and poet Francisco X will perform for the crowd as well.

Nightmare on M Street

The bars of D.C. will open up for a special evening of spooky bar hops and great deals at 5:00 p.m. on Halloween. For the 17th year in a row, costumed partiers will pack M Street and enjoy over 28 bars with a night-long festival. DJs will also line the streets for a fun-filled evening of cheap drinks, crazy costumes and wild dancing. Wristbands must be purchased in order to the access drink deals and participate in the bar hop.

Section 202 host Gabrielle and friends go over some sports that aren’t in the sports media spotlight often, and review some sports based on their difficulty to play.
