Original story
The Kennedy Political Union and AU will host a debate for mayoral candidates at Katzen Arts Center on Feb. 12.

The debate will take place in the Abramson Family Recital Hall at 7 p.m., according to a January AU in the Neighbor Newsletter. Journalist Tom Sherwood from NBC will moderate, while ABC 7’s Sam Ford and Fox 5’s Matt Ackland will analyze the debate as panelists.

More than 12 candidates, including nine Democrats, are competing against incumbent Mayor Vincent Gray, according to a Washington Post report. The primary and general elections are slated for April 1 and Nov. 4 respectively, according to the D.C. Board of Elections.

“We are excited to bring local candidates to campus for a debate on the many issues relevant to the future of the District of Columbia,” Thornton said in the newsletter. “By hosting this debate, we hope to engage AU students in an important dialogue about our city and local community.”
