Men’s soccer drops in PL standings with 3-1 loss to Loyola

The AU men’s soccer team pushed their winless streak to six after a 3-1 loss to Loyola on Oct. 31 while on the road.

The Eagles have not won a game since Oct. 5, which has dropped the team to sixth place in the Patriot League.

The Patriot League finals will now include the top six teams of the league instead of last year’s top four teams due to the addition of two universities. The Eagles currently sit in sixth place with 8 points, and are in close company with Colgate and Lafayette both of which have 7 points. With only three games left in the season, two of which are division games, each game is important if the Eagles are going to make the Patriot League championships.

The match against Loyola began evenly matched until the 25th minute when sophomore Larry Ndjock scored the first goal of the game. Ndjock was able to go through the Eagles’ (4-7-5, 2-3-2 PL) defense and capitalize on a one on one with senior goalkeeper Billy Knutsen.

AU tied the game in the second half with a goal by junior midfielder Conor Osborne. Loyola (6-7-2, 1-5-1 PL) answered back within the minute with a goal of their own. Later in the half, the Greyhounds added another goal to shut the door on the Eagles.

The Greyhounds limited the Eagles to nine shots, two of which were shots on goal. AU had troubles stopping Loyola’s prolific scorer Larry Ndjock, who logged his ninth and tenth goal of the season. Even with reigning Patriot League defensive player of the week senior Cristobal Soto, AU allowed three goals, 13 shots and eight shots on goal.

The Eagles return to Reeves Field for the final regular season home game on Nov. 2 for Senior Day against Boston University.
