'Malicious' fire set on Tenley campus

A bathroom stall on the Tenley Campus was set on fire on March 31 around 10 p.m., in what the AU Department of Public Safety called a “malicious burning.” No injuries were reported.

The stall is located on the first floor of Capital Hall, which houses dorms, classrooms and offices.

Two fire trucks and a fire department pickup left Tenley campus at around 11:15 p.m. on March 31. Public Safety is working with the D.C. Fire Department to investigate the incident. There is not a description of the suspect at this time.

The stall sustained discernible damage. The walls and ceiling are all at least partially black from the burning, and the room still smelled strongly of ash as of 7 p.m. on April 1. Yellow caution tape currently covers the door, sink and toilet.

Public Safety released the Crime Alert on April 1. The Crime Alert also provided basic safety tips for fire situations.

Public Safety encourages anyone with information about the incident to call (202)-885-3636.

Eagle contributing writer Alex Seibel assisted with this report.
