University Center: new system will speed up, simplify event-scheduling process

Student organizations scheduling events will soon see more choices and wait less for confirmation, according to the University Center.

The UC has upgraded the event scheduling tool R25 to 25Live, which all departments and student organizations will begin using on Dec. 7.

25Live offers an enhanced list of available spaces across campus and a less time-consuming confirmation process than R25, said Clifton Johnson, UC’s assistant director of scheduling and events services.

Flaws with R25 allowed closets and office spaces to be mistakenly booked for events. However, 25Live has removed the option of choosing these spaces, which will reduce confusion, according to UC Event Services Coordinator Soo-Hyun Kim.

“I think, at the heart of this, there’s not a lot of space on campus,” Christine Gettings, the assistant director for Kay Spiritual Life Center, said. “If they can get confirmation [for space requests] really quickly, it’ll make people pretty happy.”

Over the course of the year, UC will add new features to 25Live, including a filter to the master event calendar, so students can tailor which events they’ll see based on their interests, Kim said.

Space is still limited on campus, according to Kim.

“We definitely encourage students to plan ahead,” Kim said.
