The position of Judicial Board Chair will no longer be paid, according to a Senate bill that was passed unanimously on Sept. 23.
The vote came after SG nominated a Judicial Board chair and two associate members. School of Public Affairs senior James DeLucia will serve as the board’s chair and the two associate members are School of International Service freshman Alex Iannacio and College of Arts and Sciences freshman Tabatha Poelstra.
Sen. Brett Atanasio, who voted in favor of the bill, described the decision as something that has been a long time coming.
The bill comes after the Senate brought impeachment charges against former Chair of the Judicial Board Anthony Dunham, The Eagle previously reported.
He was charged with failure to complete his duties, which included:
• Presenting rulings to the Senate,
• Holding office hours and
• Completing timesheets for his paid position.
Dunham was never removed from office.
“No one can actually confirm if he was actually just sitting around twiddling his thumbs and collecting pay for it,” Atanasio said of Dunham. “The only reason I opposed it is because the judicial board only acts as needed. It only operates if someone submits an inquiry.”
