All four students studying at Waseda University in Tokyo have voluntarily evacuated the city, according to AU Abroad Senior Adviser Ethan Merritt.
Merritt said one student has returned home to California; one is currently in western Japan and is leaving for the U.S. today and one is staying with friends in western Japan with plans to return to the U.S. shortly. The fourth student has chosen to remain in Japan and is living with friends in the west.
All four students said they plan to return to Waseda at the beginning of the delayed spring semester in early May.
"We're pleased they're all fine," Merritt said. "They won't lose the semester ... assuming things continue to stabilize over there, which it looks like they will."
