AU Abroad recommends that AU students studying abroad at Waseda University in Tokyo be voluntarily evacuated.
“The decision is ultimately the students,’ whatever they should choose to do, but the recommendation came in from us that they should evacuate as soon as possible,” said Senior Study Abroad Adviser Ethan Merritt.
One of the four students at Waseda has returned to the U.S. but plans to go back later in the spring.
AU Abroad is waiting for the other three students to make their decisions, according to Merritt.
Waseda has delayed its spring semester, which will now be held May 6 through Aug. 4, according to a University press release.
“There’s a possibility that students will still be able to return to Waseda later in April to resume their studies, if that’s what they choose to do,” Merritt said.
Merritt said AU Abroad is also investigating options for students to study at other AU-affiliated universities in Japan.
