Freshman Deon Jones to run for South side ANC seat

The A Voice 4 U campaign selected Deon Jones on Thursday to run for the Advisory Neighborhood Commission district encompassing AU's South side of campus, ANC 3D07.

Jones, like his counterpart running for ANC 3D02 Tyler Sadonis, is a freshman in the School of Public Affairs. Students will have a chance to meet him and Sadonis on Sunday at the A Voice 4 U voter registration drive and canvassing event.

The A Voice 4 U campaign staff decided between a total of seven people who were interested in the candidacy for the ANC 3D07 seat, according to Sam Miller, director of Eagle Communications, the public relations firm working with A Voice 4 U.

Jones stood out from the other six because he showed the most energy and was the most enthusiastic, according to Bharat Krishnan, the A Voice 4 U campaign manager.

"He sought the AV4U campaign team out on many occasions, and what really separated him from the rest of the pack was his ability to mesh with Tyler, the North side candidate," Krishnan said.

Also, Jones is not very affiliated with many other positions on campus, so confusion and legality issues could be avoided with his candidacy. He also would have more time and energy to devote to the position, according to Krishnan.

Jones and Sadonis will give speeches and meet other students as part of the A Voice 4 U event tomorrow in the Woods-Brown Amphitheater at 5:00 p.m.
