40 Butler Board Room chairs returned during amnesty period

The amnesty period is now over for individuals to return University property stolen this semester without penalties.

AU officials circulated an e-mail Oct. 7 to students, asking for the return of furniture worth $7,311.30 by Oct. 18, The Eagle previously reported.

This stolen property includes:

• 30 Butler Board Room chairs • 10 Marketplace bar stools • One Tavern booth seat • One Tavern high table

Out of these items, only the Butler Board Room chairs have been returned. But 10 additional chairs were also returned to Butler, and people have also returned other stolen items not originally listed in the circulated e-mail.

Scott Jones, the University Center’s director of operations, said the following have been returned:

• a total of about 40 chairs to the Butler Board Room • about 15 chairs to the second floor of the Mary Graydon Center • several missing chair carts

“I’m rather pleased with that,” he said.

Jones is still waiting for the other items, however, and said that if Public Safety finds the individuals through its investigation, those people will be subject to legal charges associated with theft.

“We still don’t know who it was,” he said.

Jones is currently in the process of getting quotes for replacement items.

Public Safety declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation.
