Officials announced April 20 that the location of Four Corners, the only place where four states meet at a point, is more than two miles off the mark, the Associated Press reported.
The marker is a popular tourist attraction for people who want to stand in Colorado, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico simultaneously, but those people have been standing about 2.5 miles too far west, according to a new National Geodetic Survey.
The location was determined in an 1868 survey of the area, according to the AP. The survey was being performed to determine the southern border of Colorado, but was done incorrectly. The actual location is northeast of the San Juan River, rather than southwest.

Correction: In "Popular tourist spot miles off mark," The Eagle, sourcing the Associated Press, incorrectly reported that the Four Corners monument was 2.5 miles west of where it was supposed to be. The AP subsequently corrected their story, and reported that the marker is actually 1,807.14 feet east of where it should be. The Eagle regrets this error.
