The D.C. Health Department reported Monday about the fifth case of measles in the area this year, The Washington Post reported.
A D.C. man became infected with the disease while traveling in India but did not show symptoms until arriving home, Health Department Director Pierre Vigilance told the Post. The man traveled to seven locations in the metropolitan area before reporting the disease. Officials are urging unimmunized individuals who visited those areas to contact health officials, the Post reported.
Measles usually shows up as a skin rash, watery eyes and fever, according to the Post. It is now uncommon in the United States due to required vaccinations for schoolchildren and foreign-born citizens.
