Kyrie Bannar, a junior in the School of Public Affairs and the College of Arts and Sciences, received the prestigious Harry S. Truman Scholarship, according to an AU press release.
Bannar will be the 16th AU student to receive the award and the ninth in nine years.
She directed AU's Take Back the Night, created a peer mentorship program focusing on teen violence and maintained a 3.86 GPA.
The award is given to around 60 college juniors, according to the Truman Scholarship Foundation Web site. Bannar will be receiving a total of $30,000 for graduate education.
