2012 senator not reinstated

AU's Undergraduate Senate voted unanimously Sunday to not reinstate Class of 2012 Sen. Josh Roll.

Roll was suspended for a poor attendance record after he missed three senate meetings and multiple committee meetings this semester.

"He hasn't been active, he hasn't attended meetings and I think that reflects poorly on the office that he holds," said Class of 2010 Sen. Jordan Boyd.

Roll was a member of the Gender Neutral Housing Committee and missed multiple committee meetings, according to Boyd, the committee's vice chair.

Roll said he missed the committee meetings due to class conflicts, but Boyd said the meetings were scheduled to work with Roll's commitments. Roll said he missed the senate meetings due to conflicts with his work schedule.

The senators said reinstating Roll would make his re-election next year more likely. They noted the many Class of 2012 candidates that ran for the senate seat in the fall election and questioned Roll's ability to represent his constituents.

"There were a lot of freshmen that ran for this seat and I think that reflects poorly on us," said Class of 2011 Sen. Emily Beyer. "Every freshman worked their butt off trying to get this seat and I think they can be better represented."
