The National Zoo needs more bamboo for its pandas, officials announced yesterday. The zoo harvested less bamboo this year than the 75,000 pounds it usually grows, according to The Washington Post.
The zoo is now looking for homeowners who have an acre or more of property with overgrown bamboo and would like the bamboo removed, the Post reported.
The zoo's three adult-sized giant pandas eat bamboo all winter, chomping on stalks for up to 14 hours a day. Other zoo animals also eat the plant, including the red pandas, the elephants and the gorillas, according to the Post.
