The D.C. school board will be voting this week whether or not to close schools on Jan. 20 for President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration. Schools must decide whether the day should be observed as a holiday or as a teachable moment, according to The Washington Post.
Loudoun County, Va., public school officials decided Tuesday to cancel classes on Inauguration Day, while Howard County, Md., school officials were told Wednesday to work with any employees and parents who decide to take off, according to the Post.
D.C. officials told the Post it would be an insurmountable challenge for schools in the District to even try to remain open.
