Field hockey gets back on track against Wildcats

AU rolls; Fingerhuth scores twice

Sophomore forward Christine Fingerhuth scored two goals to help the 14th ranked AU Eagles win over Northwestern University Wildcats Saturday. The final score was 5-2 at the Terrapin Invitational in College Park, Md. The Eagles improve to 3-2 on the season.

The Eagles scored four sequential goals in the first 25 minutes of the game. Senior captain Irene Schickhardt tallied first, deflecting a shot from sophomore midfielder Anne Van Erp four minutes into regulation play. Fingerhuth followed Schickhardt's lead, as she scored both of her goals in the next ten minutes. Savannah Graybill finished off the first half with an assist to Schickhardt and a goal of her own in the 25th minute.

Despite the score favoring the Eagles, the game was evenly matched as both teams had a total of 11 shots. Northwestern attempted to comeback at the end of the first half with junior forward Elizabeth Dobbs' goal and towards the end of the second half with senior midfielder Alexandra Quinn's goal. Quinn has now scored in four straight games for the Wildcats.

In the 65th minute of the game, junior midfielder Anne-Meike DeWiljes sealed the Eagle victory after she scored off a penalty corner.

Freshman goaltender Evan Fowler played all 70 minutes in front of the goal for the Eagles. She saved six Wildcat shots.

Fingerhuth leads the Eagles in points on the season with four goals and two assists.

The Eagles battle the first place University of Maryland, College Park at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
