Women's lacrosse falls to Mason

Team ends four-game winning streak at home

The women's lacrosse team snapped its season-long four-game winning streak Wednesday afternoon, losing to the No. 12 ranked George Mason Patriots 15-7 at Jacobs Field.

Despite a hat trick by senior attacker Jackie Lane, the Eagles fell behind right from the opening whistle and were unable to ever catch up.

The Patriots started the game on a quick 3-0 scoring run in the first seven minutes before senior attacker Lauren Aksionoff put the Eagles on the board with a goal of her own to cut the deficit to 3-1.

George Mason responded with another 3-0 scoring run to make the score 6-1 in favor of the Patriots with eight minutes to go in the half.

A goal by junior midfielder Leslie Fischer in the closing minutes of the first-half cut the George Mason to 6-2 as the teams entered the break.

AU continued the comeback entering the second half, as Lane recorded her first goal of the game to cut the George Mason lead to three with 26:15 remaining in the contest. However, this would be as close as the Eagles would get all game, as the Patriots put the game out of reach following a 9-2 run to put the score at 15-5 with five minutes to play.

Lane scored twice in the game's final moments to cut the lead to 15-7, where it would stand for the eventual George Mason victory.

George Mason's Brittany Berger and Laura King led all scorers with four goals apiece while Lane was the high scorer for AU with three in the game.

The Eagles will return to action Saturday when they go on the road to face Stony Brook. The game tips off at 1 p.m.
