Letter to the editor

Police blotter reflects poorly on AU

I am extremely disappointed in The Eagle for continuing to publish one of its most recent columns, the "Police Blotter." Not only does this display the lack of creativity and imagination that many Eagle writers have, it gives the school a bad reputation and embarrasses the students who have to read about their own transport in the newspaper.

Also, who really cares how many students have to be transported or are found drunk? They should not be published in a newspaper that is trying to become reputable and looking to increase its support base as well as recruit new writers. Sadly, this is not even the worst part of this column. As perhaps many Eagle writers are unaware, the AU Ambassadors tell tours as well as every single person who visits campus to pick up a copy of The Eagle to read about current events here at AU. They want to read thoughtful comments and reflections on and about campus, not a record of where and when fights, transports and minor disturbances occurred. Not only does this make our campus look bad, but it also displays a huge lack of pride for AU.

How about instead featuring a column that includes all of the win and loss details of sports since we are trying to bolster our athletic pride? Or, why don't you include an update on presidential polling, since we are supposed to be a politically active campus? Instead of spending a half page on all the negative aspects of our school, why don't you focus on the positives?
