Undergraduate Senate supports AU a capella group

The Undergraduate Senate unanimously passed "A Resolution to Support the A Capella Community at American University" during their meeting yesterday.

Barron John Weyerhaeuser, class of 2008 senator, and John Cipriani, class of 2009 senator and member of the a capella group On A Sensual Note, cosponsored the resolution after a member of Student Activities did not allow the group to sing in Mary Graydon Center last week.

Weyerhaeuser said he decided to cosponsor the resolution because it was "supporting the rights of all arts groups and all students to perform throughout the university and university spaces," he said.

In addition, the senate elected Weyerhaeuser as chairman of the budget committee. The following senators were elected as budget committee members - Jason Cunningham, John Goodman, Andrew MacCracken, Julie Mills, Ben Schorr and Nick Troiano.

Senate meetings are held every Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Kogod 118 and are open to the student body.
