SOC professors to showcase films in festival

This week, the National Museum of Women in the Arts will screen four School of Communication faculty members' work in its weeklong celebration of female filmmakers, according to an article published in American Today.

Kylos Brannon, Giovanna Chesler, Leena Jayaswal and Brigid Maher are the professors who have films featured in the first annual Festival of Women's Film and Media Arts, American Today reported.

The films are scheduled to run from Sept. 25 to Sept. 30 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, which is located in Northwest Washington.

Chesler has two pieces that will be shown at the festival - "Period: The End of Menstruation" will be shown at 4 p.m. on Sept. 27, and "HPV Boredom 1, 2, and 3" will be screened at 11 a.m. on Sept. 28, American Today reported.

"AWOL," Maher's film, will be shown at 2 p.m. on Sept. 28, and "The New F Word," a video installation co-produced by Maher and Jayaswal, will be screened throughout the festival, according to American Today.

Brannon and Jayaswal united in filming the documentary "An Impression: Dischord Records," which will be shown at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 28, American Today reported.

Maher told The Eagle she was honored to have her film shown at the festival.

"I find it also personally exciting to have my work shown with my colleagues," Maher said. "I think it is really important to support women in filmmaking."
