Metropolitan Police and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Caliss Johnson, 41, on Monday in connection with a recent series of kidnappings that have occurred in Northwest D.C., according to The Washington Post. A second man, whose name has not been released, turned himself in to authorities on Tuesday, according to NBC4.com.
Johnson was subsequently charged with armed kidnapping in two of the three cases. Investigations into the third case are expected to continue, according to a Metropolitan Police press release.
The three cases occurred on M Street N.W., Fourth Street N.W. and near the corner of 13th and K Streets N.W. In all three cases, one or two men claiming to be police officers stopped women while they were in their vehicles, withdrew funds from ATM accounts and stole money from victims' purses.
