The AU chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society inducted Interim President Neil Kerwin as part of its fall induction ceremony at the Metropolitan Memorial United Methodist Church yesterday.
Kerwin said he felt privileged to be selected as this year's honorary member.
"Service is a large part of American," he said. "Golden Key is an organization that marks beautifully the values of American. It demands service and leadership."
In order to be inducted into the Golden Key, underclassmen must reach the top 15 percent of their class based on GPA. The AU chapter inducted 71 new members this year.
Kerwin advised the new inductees that becoming a member of The Golden Key carried the responsibility "to serve and to take advantage of the many opportunities of the organization."
Jennifer Segal, a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences and chapter president, said she agreed with Kerwin on the importance of getting involved with the chapter.
"It was very important to me to get involved with an organization that gave me the opportunity to do community service," she said.
