Fifth girl dies after Amish school shooting
A 7-year-old girl died Tuesday following the deadly shooting at an Amish schoolhouse. This brings the death toll from the attack to six, with five other girls still in critical condition, according to CNN.
CNN reported that several incidents, including the death of his daughter in 1997 and trauma he suffered as a child, could have motivated Charles Carl Roberts IV, 32, to go on a shooting spree Monday before killing himself. Authorities announced that the attack was not intended to target the Amish community.
Pennsylvania state troopers said Roberts apparently tied up the females and lined them up before he began shooting, according to CNN.
Roberts entered the school with three guns and a bag that contained 600 pounds of ammunition, according to CNN. Officials also said Roberts brought other items such as toilet paper, suggesting he was prepared for a long-term siege.
The schoolhouse in Bart Township, located about 55 miles west of Philadelphia, was an Amish school that educated children ages 6 to 13.
DVD rental site offers recommendation reward
Popular movie rental site Netflix stated it will offer a $1 million reward to software engineers who help the site develop a better video recommendation system, according to the Associated Press.
To win the prize, the software must improve the accuracy of the current recommendation system, which suggests related movies users may be interested in, by 10 percent, the AP reported. The success of any new systems will be tracked by a program that asks for 5.2 million users' feedback on the accuracy of the suggestions offered by the test program.
The incentive comes as electronic insiders announced Netflix faces competition with Blockbuster and other movie rental providers for new technology, including the downloading of movies directly onto computer hard drives, The AP reported.
