TDR patrons, employee reveal favorite flicks

When asked about favorite movies, music, food and more, many people often stop to ponder their answer. We at The Scene were curious about the results if respondents didn't have a chance to think about their answer, thus being forced to provide only an honest, unadulterated response. The following are the gut-reaction from a sampling of faces found in TDR.

Sofia Alcamtara TDR Employee Favorite movie: "Titanic" (1997) Sofia Alcamtara works at the Terrace Dining Room and her favorite movie is James Cameron's tearjerking super-hit, "Titanic." Alcamtara said she likes "Titanic" the most because of the story.

James Worsdale Freshman, College of Arts and Science Favorite movie: "Closer" (2004) Naturally, James Worsdale's gut reaction, upon further introspection, was not indeed his favorite movie. "That's the first movie that came to my head," he said. "That's not even my favorite movie. ... It's really 'The Royal Tenenbaums!'" On why he preferred Wes Anderson's almost-classic film, Worsdale simply said, "It's funny and entertaining." And "Closer" isn't?

Hilary Singer Sophomore, CAS Favorite movie: "Zoolander" (2001) "That's terrible!" Hilary Singer said after she mentioned the Ben Stiller comedy "Zoolander" as her favorite movie. She said that her friend John quoted the movie at dinner while down in TDR and found that funny. "Funny movies are entertaining and I like entertainment ... and that's a quote!" Singer said.

Robbie Schwartz Freshman, School of Public Affairs Favorite movie: "The Sandlot" (1993) The first movie that came to Robbie Schwartz' mind is the childhood classic, "The Sandlot." When pressed for why he enjoys the movie, Schwartz said that it has a good story , that he enjoys sports, and "The Sandlot" effectively combines those.

Tor Holdenfield Freshman, CAS Favorite movie: "Stand By Me" (1986) Why does Tor Holdenfield like "Stand By Me?" "Those kids are gangsta!" he said. Holdenfield particularly likes how the "little hooligans" in the movie "go on an adventure on a warm summer day," and if he is feeling lazy someday, he can pop in the movie and join them. Holdenfield said he has seen "Stand By Me" approximately 35 times.

Claudio Leite Junior, CAS Favorite movie: "Noi Albinoi" (2003) Claudio Leite's favorite film is the Icelandic movie "Noi Albinoi," which is about a teen boy living in and dreaming of leaving his rural Icelandic village. Leite likes "Noi Albinoi" for it's cinematography and how it combines "black humor with a well thought-out script." "It's bleak as all hell, though," Leite said.
