Metro brief: Howard students shot, robbed near their campus

Two Howard University students were attacked Sunday night while walking near the school's engineering building, according to Howard's student newspaper The Hilltop.

One student was shot and the other was robbed during the attack, which took place around 9:30 p.m. The wounded male underwent surgery that night at Howard University Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, according to a letter to the university community from University President Patrick Swygert.

Additional security has been assigned to patrol certain areas of campus at specific times. Swygert and the chief of campus police met with student leaders Monday to discuss campus security.

Campus police and the Metropolitan Police Department are currently investigating the incident. No arrests have been made.
