Plans to cut food stamps dropped by Senate

Plans to cut the food stamp program have been dropped by Senate Republicans, according to www.washingtonpost.com.

The plans were dropped just as the chamber's leaders hurried to assemble a $35 billion spending cut measure.

The food stamp cuts could have meant a loss of benefits for 300,000 working families that usually benefited from generous eligibility rules.

The Republican-controlled House plans to cut up to $50 billion when it votes as early as tomorrow to revise the budget. The Senate has no such plans.

Bud pong discontinued by Anheuser-Busch

Anheuser-Busch has chosen to discontinue a national campaign promotion called "Bud Pong."

"Bud Pong" is a drinking game that the company says is supposed to be played with water, said an article on USAToday.com.

Participants in the game were often seen drinking beer as they lost points, according to an article in The New York Times. The game is traditionally played with a ping-pong ball and plastic cups filled with beer.

The brewer has promoted Bud Pong competitions since July by supplying tables, balls and glasses to customers across the U.S.

Players on one team try to sink a ball into another team's liquid-filled cups. If successful, the opposing team must drink the liquid, which "Bud Pong" promoters say was supposed to be water.

Anheuser-Busch has launched nationwide promotions to encourage beer-drinking, including distributing recipe books to encourage bartenders to mix beer cocktails using ingredients like grenadine and tomato juice.
