Campus brief: Panelists debate U.S. drug policies

Panelists debated U.S. drug policy and its development Friday in the SIS lounge at a forum presented by the International Development Program Student Association.

Panelists included Sanho Tree, director of the Drug Policy Project at the Institute for Policy Studies and Dr. David Murray, special assistant and science advisor to the director at the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Dr. David Hirschmann moderated the forum.

Tree argued that the current U.S. drug policies are not working.

"After five years of Plan Columbia now, and about four billion dollars expended, cocaine is easy to get as ever before, perhaps even easier" Tree said.

Murray defended U.S. drug policy by saying policy alternatives, such as legalization, would exacerbate the problem.

Approximately 70 students were in attendance. For information on further events see their website http://www.idpsa.org.

Section 202 host Gabrielle and friends go over some sports that aren’t in the sports media spotlight often, and review some sports based on their difficulty to play.
