The still unnamed male panda cub born this July at the National Zoo underwent his fourth physical Tuesday since his birth.
The cub, born seven weeks ago, weighed approximately six pounds at his most recent examination, according to The Washington Post.
"He was crawling on the table today, and we had to keep a hold on him," said Lisa Stevens, assistant curator at the National Zoo in a previous interview. "When I was putting the tape measure over his little head, he kept bobbing his head and kind of protesting."
The panda measured 13 inches across his chest and was very fidgety during his exam. The cub was born July 9 through artificial insemination. Scientists have been trying to breed giant pandas unsuccessfully for over 10 years. The knowledge gained from the birth of the National Zoo's panda will help in future attempts to breed the bears, as well as support the survival of the endangered species.
