Local Fraternity Raises Money through Dodgeball Event

WASHINGTON DC- Delta Tau Delta hosted the First Annual Delt Dodgeball Tournament on Saturday, April 2nd , in Bender Arena. The tournament raised over $1300 and all proceeds will be donated to the Adam Friedman Fund for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

25 teams from the American University community participated in the event, which lasted three hours, and was won by members of the AU Basketball team, who won four roundtrip tickets on Independence Air anywhere in the country and two tickets to an upcoming Washington Wizards game.

"We were able to come out today and have a great time while raising money for a great cause," said Chapter President Jesse Epstein. "The campus support was awesome and we look forward to making Delt Dodgeball an annual success."

Teams of five participated in best-of-three game rounds, with the winner of each round advancing. The Final Four teams represented the AU Men's Basketball team, Delta Gamma Fraternity, the Barcada South Asian Association, and a team made up of unaffiliated members, Heavy Syndication, which placed second.

Prizes also included gift certificates to Rock Bottom, Chef Geoff's, Hair City and two free dinners at BD's Mongolian Barbecue for Tournament MVP Ramone Penny, who dominated all day and led his team to the victory.

The winners, Juiced Up, included captain Brayden Billbe, Andre Ingram, Linas Lekavicius, Arvydas Eitutavicius, and Penny. Penny faced stiff competition from Barcada's Graham Gawrysiak, and the Delta Gamma team's Rachel Pitzen for Tournament MVP honors.

"Delt Dodgeball was a creative, fun way to raise money for a good cause. Even though my team was eliminated early, it was still a lot of fun to watch the other teams compete and support the Delts," said tournament participant Chrissy Fisher of the Team Silly Banana.

In addition to the Final Four, Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity, Phi Mu Fraternity, Alpha Chi Omega, Chi Omega, Sigma Delta Tau, and the Interfraternity Council were represented in one of the largest showings by the AU Greek community all year.

This week, the AU Greek community will come together for Greek Week, which includes guest speakers, other athletic events, and the Greek Games on Saturday on the quad.

Delt Dodgeball culminated a week which included the showing of the movie, "Dodgeball" on Wednesday night.
