Fun at Founder's Day Ball

More than 400 students celebrated AU's annual Founder's Day Ball with dancing and grinding, and glitz and glamour Saturday at the Galleria at Lafayette Center in Dupont Circle from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m.

The band Second Nature performed hits from the '60s such as "Good Lovin'," some '70s disco music and even Michael Jackson's "Beat It." The five-member band featured a saxophonist, a guitarist, bassist, drummer and singer who belted out everything from Aretha Franklin's "Respect" to the classic closer "Last Dance."

The disc jockey, an AU student, played modern favorites such as "Get Back" by Ludacris and "Crazy in Love" by Beyonce and Jay-Z. Although there were seats and tables, the dance floor was almost always crowded with dancers, from the serious to the lighthearted and from the very talented to the dancing-challenged.

"I had a wonderful time dancing the night away," said Student Confederation President Polson Kanneth. "ATV was on the red carpet."

Guests dined on fruits, vegetables, cheeses and various desserts such as brownies and cookies. A fountain punch bowl, soda and bottles of water were provided as refreshments to the partygoers. At the end of the night, guests could take home a Founder's Day glass filled with mints and Hershey's Kisses.

Area restaurants such as the Palm, Felix and David Greggory offered discounts for students who wanted to dine with friends before the event.

Section 202 host Gabrielle and friends go over some sports that aren’t in the sports media spotlight often, and review some sports based on their difficulty to play.
