Student clubs need cash

The AU Club Council has not yet given all the clubs their budget allocations for the year, though they were due more than two weeks ago. This fiscal uncertainty and, for some, current lack of funds, could damage the work they plan to do this semester.

Students have worked hard to get members for their groups and are responsible for providing those members with activities that support the mission of the club. Without funding, planning for such activities cannot happen, and clubs will lose members. This delay renders clubs ineffective until they know their budgets.

For political groups, it is essential that they receive their funding soon, because so many of their activities are focused around the two months before the election. There is so much interest in politics at AU, and it's sad that opportunities for speakers and events could be missed because allocations were not received on time.

We're too far into the semester for things like this to be delayed, particularly when it goes against the club's own by-laws.

There is no good reason for this to happen. Especially when the reason for the delay involves merely an error on a form. One little mistake should not have this big of an impact. It also doesn't make sense that some clubs have been told their allocations and others have not. While students are left in the dark as to their financial situation, communication needs to be fast and thorough.

It's a shame that student groups are hindered in planning programs because of bureaucratic complications.
